Whole30 Chipotle Peach BBQ Sauce for the last-week-of-Whole30 WIN!!! I'm obsessed.
A few weeks ago, I shared that I would be giving Whole30 a shot for the month of January and invited you guys to join me! I got so many responses (369 to be exact) of people who were interested in participating and who wanted All. The. Recipes.
If you ask me (which if you're reading this.. you kinda did), one of the major mistakes people make during Whole30 is keeping things too basic. Notice I didn't say easy. I'm responsible for feeding 3 other people (who couldn't be more averse to following a Whole30 plan) multiple times on a daily basis, I need easy, always easy.
By basic, I mean protein + vegetable = bland and sauce-less.
Why why why are we not focusing more on creative, bursting with flavor sauces? This is what's missing in your life.
This is what I'm bringing to the table today.. healthy, Whole30 complaint flavor packing Chipotle Peach BBQ Sauce.
It's new, actually - I made it out of necessity when I learned that tracking down Whole30 complaint BBQ Sauce in January is like searching for gold at the end of a rainbow. Most BBQ sauces contain some form of added sugar (even whole food versions rely heavily on honey). Not today. This BBQ sauce is sweetened naturally with dates and peaches (<--don't judge).. and you're going to find yourself going back to it again and again and again.
You can always add more or less dates, if you want to sweeten it up or take the calories down a notch - you know, sweet BBQ vs. vinegar based. This recipe falls closer to the vinegar based BBQ sauce category (I am from the South after all). Taste as you go and adjust as needed.
This sauce has drenched All. The. Things. this week.. pulled chicken, sweet potatoes, oven fries.. I may or may not have even dipped roasted cauliflower in it one evening while trying to thwart off an intense buffalo wing craving.
Like I do with most things, I recommend making a double batch. It freezes well and it's no extra work. If you are planning to make BBQ chicken (or pork, beef, etc), you can plan on the recipe for the sauce being enough for about 3-4 lbs.
Time Saving Tips and Tricks
Prep: Once you get this recipe started, it comes together very quickly. No need to prep ingredients.
Make Ahead: Yep, it's recommended. This sauce is great for using throughout the week to make meal prepping simple. Sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Freezer: Sauce can be frozen for up to 3 months. Follow recipe directions, allow sauce to cool completely and then store in a freezer-safe container. To thaw, allow sauce to thaw in the refrigerator overnight or warm in a small sauce pan over low heat.

Description
Tangy, savory Whole30 Chipotle Peach BBQ Sauce is simple to make, and naturally sweetened. Perfect for adding to pulled chicken, pizza, burgers and everything else in between!
Ingredients
- 1 TBS ghee
- ½ small onion, roughly chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
- 8 oz tomato sauce
- ½ cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 Tbs yellow mustard
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp pepper
- 2 Tbs coconut aminos
- ⅓ cup chicken stock/broth
- 6 dates, pitted and roughly chopped
- ½ cup frozen peaches
- 1-2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (**spicy)
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ghee and onions. Cook until onions begin to turn translucent, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add tomato sauce, balsamic vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper, coconut aminos, chicken broth/stock, dates, peaches and chipotle pepper(s). Bring to a boil and then immediately reduce to a simmer. Allow mixture to cook down for 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture is just slightly thinner than traditional BBQ sauce. Remove from heat.
- Add mixture to blender and blend until texture is smooth. You could also use an immersion blender, but I find this to be messy. If sauce is too thick, add water or additional broth/stock. If too thin, return to stove and simmer until desired consistency is reached. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator or freezer in an airtight jar.
Notes
- If you are using dates that aren't fresh.. soak them in warm water for a few minutes to soften them up.
- I used my Slow Cooker Chicken Bone Broth for this recipe.
